Chef Welton has been with The Port Pub and Bistro since its creation. His cusine is based on creating quality food in a relaxed atmosphere, using as much local product as possible, and complimenting the fine beer from Sea Level Brewery.

Born and raised on the edge of the beautiful Annapolis Valley, Chef Peter Welton is no stranger to using local products. Peter grew up in a house where home-grown produce and wild meats were on hand and the aroma of fresh baked bread was not unusual.

After high school, Peter trained at the Culinary Institute of Canada in Prince Edward Island, where in 1997 he was under the tutelage of Chef Hans Wicki at Chester’s esteemed Haddon Hall. After graduating from the Culinary Institute of Canada in 1998, Peter returned to Haddon Hall as Sous chef till 1999, until co-running the kitchen in 2000. Peter has had the privilege to work under many prestigious chefs that taught him that hard work and passion will get you far.

Peter has spent the last 15 years cooking in various restaurants around Nova Scotia ranging from the bustling waterfront of our Province’s capital, to the picturesque town of Wolfville; where he was the former Sous chef at Tempest Resturant.
