Slow Food Movement

Slow Food Nova Scotia exists to honour this tradition of experiencing the taste of local food in a social and convivial atmosphere through excursions to farms, special dinners, tastings and public projects.

Slow Food is a non-profit, eco-gastronomic member-supported organization that was founded in 1989 to counteract fast food and fast life, the disappearance of local food traditions and people’s dwindling interest in the food they eat, where it comes from, how it tastes and how our food choices affect the rest of the world. To do that, Slow Food brings together pleasure and responsibility, and makes them inseparable. Today, we have over 100,000 members in 132 countries. Here in Nova Scotia we have one of the most active conviviums in Canada with over 100 members.

These are their principles:

  1. To promote good, clean and fair food from local producers.
  2. To encourage the best growing practises especially organic and sustainable methods.
  3. To preserve our culinary history and culture so that we have diversity in our food choices.
  4. To reconnect producers and consumers so they can educate each other.

Slow Food Nova Scotia is part of the worldwide Slow Food Movement

Our Story

The Port Pub, built by friends and owned by community shareholders, welcomes you. Enjoy good cheer and wonderful locally-produced food and drink, in an idyllic location in Port Williams, Nova Scotia.

The Port Pub and Bistro, situated on the banks of the Cornwallis River, is one of the first gastropubs in Nova Scotia. The Pub was purposefully designed and built as a gastropub by local tradesmen and showcases a unique architectural design. You can enjoy beautiful Annapolis Valley views from both within the pub or outside on our waterside deck.

Your food is prepared in our kitchen from local produce within season. We feature our own micro-brewed beers produced on site and an adventurous drink selection.
